Bas is a behavioral biologist, graduated from Wageningen University and specialized in research into the behavior and welfare of production animals. He is professor of Animal Welfare at Utrecht University and visiting professor at Wageningen University. He is also Senior Vice President of the International Society for Applies Ethology (ISAE).
