Gerda van Dijk studied Biology at Wageningen University and then obtained her PhD as an aquatic ecologist. As an aquatic ecologist, Gerda has researched the effects of land use and the discharge of toxic substances on aquatic ecosystems in lakes and rivers. Today Gerda is a professor of public leadership. She is engaged in research into the functioning of organizations from an ecological perspective. In addition to being a professor, she is Director of the Zijlstra Center for Public Control, Governance & Leadership, School for Business and Economics (SBE) VU University, Amsterdam. She is also an independent consultant, guest lecturer, speaker and supervisor / commissioner.
