Marc Damen was director of Diergaarde Blijdorp for eight years. He is now chairman of the advisory committee Animal Welfare and Urban Nature of the municipality of Rotterdam, member of the visitation committee Zoos of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO) and member of the Advisory Board Pet and Hobby Animals List.
