After studying Zoology at the Hogeschool Utrecht, Jasper studied Animal Sciences at Wageningen University. He then obtained his PhD at the Institute for Agricultural and Fisheries Research (ILVO, Belgium), researching the welfare of laying hens in non-cage systems. He was also involved in several (international) consortia.
Jasper now works as a teacher and researcher at Aeres Hogeschool Dronten. He focuses on (dialogue on) housing and welfare of poultry. In addition, he is active in Asia setting up training centers to stimulate the transition from battery cages to free-range housing.
