Health of production animals on the agenda

To improve healthcare for production animals, structured prevention and control programs are needed for a wider range of diseases and conditions. The RDA states this in an advisory report. The Council recommends drawing up a national animal health agenda for the future, which will be supported by both the government and the livestock farming sectors.

The RDA formulates a number of recommendations for the government and other parties in the animal production sector. These include the development of a structured system of monitoring and benchmarking (collecting and comparing health data), improvements in research and education, public-private programs for infectious diseases and ensuring the availability of veterinary medicines.
