State of the animal 2024: Undiminished attention for animals raises major questions

The Council on Animal Affairs (Raad voor Dierenaangelegenheden) is interested in how people look at animals and whether trends can be observed in this. That is why the Council repeated the public survey, which was conducted for the first time in 2019. Last year we launched State of the Animal 2024. With results, reflections, abrasive issues and the Council's agenda for the upcoming years. Now there is an English version of this report.

“People continue to care about animals,” says RDA chairman Jan Staman. “Even after an eventful period with many setbacks such as COVID-19, war and an energy crisis. We see that many animal keepers have a solid basis for working on the welfare and health of their animals. Each in their own way. That's a positive signal.”

The Council wants to continue working with all stakeholders towards better welfare (including health) and a better position for animals. The Council sees it as its mission to continue the dialogue and provide tools for the next steps. Because only together with governments, animal keepers, social parties, scientists and other stakeholders urgent topics in the field of animal welfare and animal health can truly be tackled.
