Assessment Framework for Production Animals

Further to a request from the Minister for Agriculture, the Council on Animal Affairs developed an assessment framework for all animal species to be kept for production purposes.

Facts, analyses and values

The Council places a high value on transparent and consistent policy considerations. The Council previously issued advisory reports on new fish species to be used in fish farming (2002) and on the dromedary as a production animal (2006). This new assessment framework enables a comprehensive and consistent assessment to be made of whether it is acceptable to keep an animal species as a production animal. This assessment is based on facts, analyses and values in line with the One Health approach. For detailed information you will find attached the full report and a summary of the report.
